Sponsor Spotlight: Pixel Jar

Putting on a WordCamp event wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our sponsors. We reached out to Brandon and Jeffrey from Pixel Jar and they responded with a resounding HELL YEAH!

I asked Brandon to tell us a little about Pixel Jar, and here’s what he had to say:

We’re happy to be supporting WordCamp Las Vegas this year. John and his crew at 9seeds embody the spirit of the WordPress community, and we dig that. Having organized a WordCamp of our own in Orange County, we understand and appreciate the amount of work that goes in to making an event like this happen.

At Pixel Jar, we love WordPress. Though we’re just a small shop of two developers, we service clients all over the world and in all different walks of life. We see our small size as an advantage because it gives us a lot of agility in the marketplace. It allows us to offer competitive rates for first-time bloggers who just want a bit of customization to a theme they bought online as well as a bit of coaching. We’re also able to quickly deliver self managed web sites for local businesses who want to gain exposure and legitimacy by having a solid online presence. But, we don’t shy away from large projects just because we’re small. In the past few months we’ve launched three BuddyPress powered social networks, and five WordPress multi-site networks. We’ve recently partnered with top-notch Orange County design agency Nien Studios to offer completely custom WordPress themes designed to our client’s specifications. If you have any questions about the services we offer, please email us at wclv@pixeljar.net. If you attend WordCamp Las Vegas, we’ll give you a 25% discount on our services.

Have a great WordCamp!

You’re likely to see the guys from PixelJar at WordCamp Las Vegas in October. When you do, be sure to give them a big ‘ol hug! Thanks, guys!

New Date and the location is set!

The past few weeks have been busy around here! We’ve been trying to find a place in Las Vegas that would provide us with everything we were looking for in a location for WordCamp. With so much conference space in Las Vegas, you’d think it’d be a snap to find a place to host a gathering for 200 people. But the hard work has paid off. The contract has been signed, the location and date are now set!

WordCamp Las Vegas 2010 will be held on October 23rd, 2010 at Palace Station Hotel and Casino!

Initially we were looking to hold the event on the following weekend. Unfortunately, Palace Station was already booked. I made the mistake of trying to find a different hotel to host the event instead of just looking at the calendar and selecting a different date. After nearly a month of research, I went back to the team at Palace Station and they were able to fit us in one week earlier than originally planned. For all the benefits hosting at Palace Station gives us, changing the date became the obvious choice. We are thrilled to be heading back!

We have 20 rooms reserved for our group for out of town guests (or you locals who want a weekend away from home). You can book online using this link or call 800-6-STATIONS and tell them you are with WordCamp Las Vegas to reserve your room.

We’ll be opening registration for WordCamp on 8/23. Until then we are actively looking for both sponsors and speakers! As the time gets closer we’ll also be looking for volunteers to help out on the day of the event! If you are interested in being a part of WordCamp Las Vegas in any capacity, please let us know!

Cheers!

What is going on with WordCamp Vegas?

I wanted to send out a quick note to let you know that we ARE in fact working on WordCamp Las Vegas, even though there isn’t much going on public facing. Here is some of what has been going on:

- I’ve met with a couple different places about potential meeting space. We’ve run in to two different issues; availability and cost. There is a slight chance we may need to change the date for WordCamp Las Vegas in order to take advantage of a reasonably priced location. This should be sorted out by the end of this week.

- With the possibility of a change in dates, I have been reluctant to put up the speaker and sponsor request pages. But, I think that can wait no longer and we’ll be putting those up this week as well.

- We’ve already had some decent interest from people looking to register for the event. AS SOON as we lock down a location, we’ll open registration with a nice early-bird special for those looking to register right away.

You can expect to see a lot of movement over the next 30 days as we get ramped up. Then, a huge push the final few weeks as the event gets closer. We’re excited about WordCamp and it’s nice to know that so many of you are, too.
